D3A SUMMER SOCIAL 2024

It might be midsummer but the d3a team decided to head underground for this year’s Summer Social.

Our Engineers and Architects enjoyed a fascinating tour of the Victoria Tunnel, organised by the Ouseburn Trust. We learnt all about how it had been built as a waggonway in Victorian Times, bringing coal down from Spital Tongues to the Quayside. Equally fascinating was its World War ll history, when it was used as a dark and rather damp air raid shelter. We made sure everyone was taking notes and there’ll be a test next week.

Once we emerged into the daylight again, we stayed in the Ouseburn Valley and enjoyed a pint and a burger at the Brinkburn Brewery. Highly recommended. Then, as the sun came out for a glorious sunny evening, we agreed no trip to Newcastle was complete without a visit to the Free Trade and taking in that fabulous view of the River Tyne.

We missed those who couldn’t join us this year but as always, it was great to spend a bit of downtime getting to know each other outside of the office.
