CIF FUNDED PROJECTS
TYNE COMMUNITY LEARNING TRUST
BACKGROUND
The nine schools within Tyne Community Learning Trust (TCLT) became academies in September 2019 and d3associates were initially commissioned to undertake a high level condition survey to identify urgent major refurbishment projects that would be appropriate for an application to the Condition Improvement Fund (CIF).
d3associates architects and building services engineers put forward several projects for a more detailed condition survey. Four heating system replacements, two roof refurbishments and a classroom extension were considered to have a good chance of success.
OUTCOME
d3associates provided initial designs for the heating schemes and classroom extension and obtained competitively tendered costs. The information was used in the supporting documentation for the CIF submissions along with programmes, risk registers and Health and Safety considerations.
TCLT were successful with five submissions and instructed d3associates to project manage the works. With only three weeks to the school summer holidays, due to the late announcement of the awards, contractors had to be appointed speedily. d3associates worked closely with the Trust, schools and contractors to ensure the works started on time and managed the contracts through to completion during the six week school holiday. The project manager kept the Trust informed as the works progressed, promptly dealing with any issues on site and providing financial updates at regular intervals. All projects were completed on time and within the original budgets
d3associates are continuing to work with the Trust and have submitted further successful CIF applications. Architectural and engineering design services for urgent structural remedial works have also been supplied.
“We have always found d3a to be easy to work with as they respond quickly to any queries or concerns we may have, even after projects have been completed. They have helped us find solutions to our problems or concerns and I would recommend them to any Trusts looking for support on bids and project management”
