DESIGN & PROJECT MANAGEMENT

SHOTTON PARISH COUNCIL & SHOTTON PARTNERSHIP 2000

BACKGROUND

Shotton Parish Council, along with Shotton Partnership 2000 had been developing alternative proposals for refurbishing and extending their existing community centre however, the estimated costs were all well above their budget. Whilst they had support from the National Lottery for a scheme, a new approach was required.

d3associates met with representatives from both organisations, which culminated in an appointment to investigate the option of a new purpose-built community centre on an adjacent site; the building sized to suit an agreed budget. This plan allowed the existing Community Centre to operate whilst the new building was constructed, so there was no loss in service provision.

The proposal satisfied all parties leading to a further commission to undertake the detailed technical design, tender process and ultimately oversee the construction phase.

OUTCOME

The proposed design was displayed at the existing Centre during a community consultation event where it was well received. Visitors were asked to post suggestions, some of which led to minor alterations to the final design drawings.

The returned tender prices were very close to the original budget, therefore no value engineering was required before the submission to the National Lottery. The project was quickly approved, a contractor appointed and the comprehensive drawings and specification ensured a smooth build process.

Finally, on completion of the new facility, the existing building was demolished to make way for the new car park.

d3associates provided fantastic support, knowledge, and expertise to create a well-designed building, which the community will be able to enjoy, not only for its functionality and flexibility, but also for its appearance. The team were professional and a pleasure to work with throughout the project.
